Adding a Retweet Button to Blogger

Providing a Retweet button on in your blog posts is a great way to increase traffic to your blog. Having this button allows your readers to quickly post your link on Twitter. The video below will walk you through the process of adding a Retweet button to your Blogger blog.

Here is where you will find the code talked about in the video: Tweetmeme.com Code Page

Here is a small revision to the video: If you want the code to show the correct Tweet numbers paste this small code along with the code you just posted:

Thank you! I followed the instructions and it appears to have worked, though I just went for the most basic one because code frightens me! ;)

Hey Tim, Thanks for sharing this. I'm wondering if it would be worth giving a try because I already have a few 'share' icons under each blog post (but don't know how often they're used). Would you say this tweet button is much better because it's quicker and to the point?

Lanee, you are welcome! Yeah the Retweet button is great cause you can see the number of times it has been tweeted...

Blogger have made it as easy to add a Retweet button as adding any other gadget; forget about these expanding widgets and code, simply add the button as a gadget. http://help.tweetmeme.com/2009/10/14/how-to-add-the-tweetmeme-gadget-to-blogger/

My comment bounced and posted twice so I deleted one.

Linda... adding that button from those directions does not add the Retweet button to every post. The widget only will retweet your blog url. If you are looking to add the Retweet button to every blog post the only way to do this is to manually add this to your blog html. The video in this post will walk you through this process.

Hi Tim,

Thank you so much! That was a very helpful video. :)

Just wanted to bring to your attention that when I copy/pasted the code revision to show the number of tewwts, it didn't work. I took another look and realized there's an extra pair of double quotes in that code which shouldn't be there. As soon as I removed those, it worked like magic! :)

Thank you.

I meant to say re-tweets (not tewwts). Sorry! LOL

Tim, Great video and post - thanks! I have a question. I use Blogger for my blog but do not have a Twitter feed on the blog, itself. However, I manually Tweet most of the posts. When I put the Tweetmeme code into the blog HTML and preview, the Retweet button is there but the counter only shows a "?". I'd rather not use the Retweet button if "?" is going to be the count. Is my logic wrong or am I missing something else? I also use Bitly when I Tweet my blog posts (and I saw the directions, on TweetMeMe lower on the page for URL abbreviation services). Could you advise me? Thank you! Arlene
