I began selling on Etsy when my friend's mom discovered it surfing the web! I've been addicted ever since. :)

I suffer from chronic depression. Getting started on Etsy, last September, was my way of proving to myself that I was Getting Better. And it seems to have worked!

I found Etsy about a year ago through a friend and was a buyer for about 5 months before taking the plunge and opening my shop. Before that time I was seeking local craft/trunk shows to get my little business running - I've only been creating purses and handbags for a little over a year now but needless to say it's my passion and finding a venue like Etsy was pretty fateful for me. It's been a great way to dip my toe in the water of selling online - and a great support network of talented crafters who are (for the most part) dealing with the same trials and tribulations as me with Lolafalk. And that's my little "Etsy history"!

A friend of mine saw that I was making jewelry and she told me about etsy last year. I started selling for a bit, then took a long break during this year, and now am back at it!

I'm clockrocks, BTW :-)

Etsy seemed like a perfect place to launch a new interest.

I have been designing, making and selling clothing for a long time, in NYC, L.A. and Vancouver. In particular, I am interested in recycling clothing; "silk purse out of a sow's ear" and all that.

For fifteen years, I have been involved in animal rescue, and of course have a household of misfits and unwanteds, lovely beasts all of them.

Making dog clothing is a natural evolution and merges two of my interests.

I would love to be featured. I got started on Etsy when it was still in Beta in 2005! It seemed like a neat idea, but I wasn't focused enough at the time to use it to its full potential. Eventually I forgot about it. Early this year, when I was looking around for some way to get my work online without having to manage all the details of my own website, I re-found Etsy and have been active ever since.

Hello! I began selling Mid-September of this year. Almost exactly a year after I discovered Etsy. I had contemplated starting a shop all that year on and off. I have always loved crafts, beads, jewelry, drawing. Finally, I just took the plunge, diving right in to the Etsy waters. And couldn't be happier, it is something of my own, to share with many people. And I have met so many great people on Etsy. :)

Glad I saw your tweet:)
I started about a year ago, found etsy through a friend that was already selling there. I had a very slow start to say the very least. But once I discovered that there is a "renew" button and that photos should look MUCH nicer than what I had originally --the magic started happening;)

I joined Etsy in response to some advice I received on national telivision to expand beyond solely having my work available in Canadian galleries.

I started selling on etsy when I got tired of hearing everyone around me say "you should sell your things!" I was on maternity leave and needed something to do and I'm so happy I took the plunge!

saw your tweet :) I would love to be featured. I started my etsy store to help with the fundraising of our next adoption. I've been making stuff for my friends for years and then heard about Etsy from a friend...

RockAndGold says: I have been making jewelry for years and after hearing my friends and family say, "you should really sell that" I finally decided to take the plunge and dive into selling. I found etsy in a magazine that had a product featured and had in teeny tiny leatures "find me on etsy." Once I found etsy I have been in love ever since. I dabbled in selling on ebay, but I am much happier on etsy and the community aspect and handmade focus can't be beat. I have my husband to thank for much help with banners, photography, business cards, and other visuals of my etsy site!

Hi there! I posted on the forum thread, too.

I found Etsy in some round-about web surfing episode... I had been selling on eBay for a little while and making jewelry since I was a kid. I also used to make Bath & Body products when I first started, but just focus on jewelry now.

Hi Timothy,

I'd love to be featured on your blog.

Thanks for having this feature.

Hi!
I originally started on Etsy as a buyer only. :) I enjoyed meeting new people here so much, that I decided to test the waters on selling. As I started selling and getting more involved, I meet many new friends here. I enjoy the etsy community. Melissa (MyissaG)

I have always love making stuff, any kind of stuff. I got started on Etsy in September because people always told me "You should sell that somewhere!", when I'd show them something new I made, or give someone something I made as a gift. My etsy shop has evolved into selling nature themed woodburned boxes since I listed a woodburned tree box that I made a couple of years ago, and it sold within a couple of days. I LOVE selling on Etsy, and its really cool to see all the places my boxes go.

I left a comment on the Etsy forum... My shop is www.glyntpottery.etsy.com
I've been making pots for many years, mostly given them away to family and friends, doing a few craft fairs and selling through one small store. I finally retired and could really devote myself to doing what I love... Stumbled upon Etsy and my sales are better than at the store!

I found Etsy and then became a shopping addict. I then started using it as my sales outlet for the custom paper goods business I began this year. So far I have joined my state's team and have started making great friends through it. I {heart} Etsy!

My 5th-grade art teacher told me "Kris, it is a good thing you're good at math because you'll never be an artist". I've never forgotten that day. I never took another art class, never tried to draw, paint, sculpt, glue stuff on other stuff…heck I felt like I could not carve a pumpkin, decorate a cake, make a card, draw a picture, or embellish anything without thinking about her comment. I was 40 years old and I started to become unhappy in a career I loved for so many years. I was a career non-game wildlife biologist. I went to a therapist who told me I needed a creative outlet...a hobby. I laughed and said, I'm not creative...my 5th grade teacher told me so!" I heeded his advice and went home and Googled "You don't have to be an artist". The first thing that came up was a company that sold sandblasting equipment. They had a video on their website with everyday people happily carving and sculpting fabulous items in glass, stone, and tile. After watching that video about 10 times that evening and after a few beers, I purchased a ginormous professional sandblasting system. I spent all of my free time putting the thing together, making messes, blasting holes in everything and honing my skills. My initial idea was to etch large-scale architectural glass, hense a large system. However, I was visiting a San Francisco market and noticed some blank gemstone pendant beads and I purchased a few....thinking maybe I could etch a design on them. Nearly a year later, I found them under the seat in my car and gave them a try. I truly loved the finished product and Creative Art and Soul was born. I can’t say that I’m a master sandcarver, or even an artist, but I really love what I do. I thought about placing my work on auction sites until I found Etsy by doing a google search of selling venues. I was impressed by how clean and professional the site looked and immediately signed up. I had my first sale soon after. I take great pride in my Etsy shop and work hard to improve my photos, upgrade my items, keep my creations affordable, list or relist often, offer excellent customer service, do custom work, wholesale orders, and market my shop. I currently sell on Etsy full time and take pride in my shop. The diversity of people and their cultures, beliefs, and concepts in this great world of ours inspires me the most and is evident in the designs and symbols I use on my pendants. I also have an Etsy bead supply shop called Terrestrial http://terrestrial.etsy.com which helps fund Creative Art and Soul.
Cheers!

A friend who makes cyber wear sent me to the Wired article about Etsy, back in June, 2006. At that time I was selling on ebay as Miss...Priss. I thought I'd list 5 of my reconstructed dresses, even though a search for that genre revealed non for sale yet. People raved and raved in the fora, and with hearts, but the market just wasn't there on Etsy, and 3 sold off Etsy. FInally 8 months later, the two remaining sold. CLothing is still difficult to sell on Etsy, but the audience is much more appreciative. I left links to the first 2 I sold, in the forum thread http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5915230&page=4

Over the years, my dresses have evolved. I list them on Etsy, but many sell offline, in person, at fairs, before they sell on Etsy. So I keep pics on my Flickr, where you can get a fuller idea: http://flickr.com/photos/runzwithscissors/sets/72157594573850015/

Cool that you do this. I'll have to follow (saw this on twitter)

Hi, I'd love to be featured. My shop is http://sedruola.etsy.com and I first opened it in July of 2006 when I was home on bedrest pregnant with my son. I started making paper envelopes and recycling yarn and wanted a place to sell them. I don't remember how I came across Etsy. After my son was born, my store went on "hiatus" because while getting used to a new family dynamic, we moved across country and completely changed our lifestyle. I re-opened my shop in January of 2008 because I was able to re-focus my attention on my knits and I needed a place and a reason to make as much as I wanted!

I started selling on Etsy as a way to expand my market--I own a B&M in Kentucky. I love the sense of community here and the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Selling on Etsy has "stretched" me as I learn more about taking pictures, writing item descriptions, and marketing my shop on the internet. Slowly, my sales are picking up! I am proud of what I accomplish and can only imagine what is in the future!

Hi Timothy,
I was selling my jewelry off Etsy for several years. I found Etsy through a Google search for "handmade". I used to enjoy browsing all the lovely items and thought "Wow, my jewelry would be a perfect fit for Etsy". But I figured it was an American site and I couldn't sell here. Then one day I was admiring a shop and lo and behold the seller was from Israel! Then I came across another shop and another and another! So I signed right up and said SHALOM ETSY!!! (That means Hello Etsy :-)

I began selling here almost a year ago, exactly! I used to be a French teacher, but I quit to stay home with my daughter after we adopted her last summer. After a few months of Sesame Street and baby toys, I decided I needed a little more adult interaction in my life and so I decided to start my own business. Now I have the perfect balance - I'm a mommy by day and a crafter at night. I spend every minute of my day doing what I love!

I have just started selling on Etsy - and listed my first item last Saturday. I've been shopping on Etsy for over a year and a half though, and I love it. So I've just started on my selling adventure and I'm looking forward to the journey. Go handmade!

My mom and I started making soap (and lotion and tons of other bath and body products) again after she had a hiatus of several years.

We really wanted a website with fancy stuff like a shopping cart and everything else. But of course that takes some time to set up. While we were waiting for that, I found etsy and started doing that in the meantime. And of course once I started I just couldn't stop.

I started selling on Etsy after hearing about it over a year ago. I didn't like the layout so I didn't bother with it. Then after a couple of friends and acquaintances mentioned it again I checked it out and have been hooked ever since. It's nice to know so many people are making handmade things as well.

Hi Tim,

I've had an etsy account for what feels like a few years now, but just opened my shop a couple weeks ago! I'm a fine artist and graphic designer and have been wanting to get my work "out there" beyond local and regional venues for a while now, especially since taking a professional development course for artists through NYFA this past year. I will be having my first solo show in February 2009 and thought having some exposure on etsy would be a fine preparation for that! Having an active shop has really helped me to focus on getting lots of work done.

Thanks for considering me!

I only discovered Etsy back this Summer. I'd been looking around for jewellery designers – I was keen to know how to sell my own designs online – and was delighted when I stumbled on the site.

I knew immediately I had to be a part of the action… I could see not only the potential for selling, but also the inspiration I would need to push my own jewellery business forward.

I discovered etsy while looking over several jewelry artists sites on Ganoksin. I wanted to have a website, and etsy seemed like the perfect first step. While I haven't had too much luck selling in this format, it has been great to have a place to link my customers at shows.

Hi,

I'm still trying to get my shop established on Etsy. I love making mosaic pieces and having a shop of my own on Etsy. I'm a fan of Martha and first heard about Etsy on her new show (not so new anymore). I'm a sahm with two small children to take care of. My dream was to be able to be home with them and opening my own business from home. I come from a long line of self-taught artist and musicians. Very talented people who practiced their craft for the pure joy of expressing themselves. I would be the first of my family to make a living doing what they absolutely love to do. I'm hoping to open doors for my children to show them it's possible to earn a living using their talents and enjoy the process at the same time!
Wow, thanks for giving me the space to get that all out. ☺

I discovered Etsy early this year and showed it to a friend to talk her into selling some of her things. After she finally signed up, I saw how easy it was and opened my own shop. Before that, I didn't think I needed an Etsy shop because I have my own website. How wrong I was - I get so many more hits and have learned some valuable business concepts in the forums.

I looked at Etsy a couple of years ago, when I first took my business online. I rejected it then because it looked like kitchen table crafters. After struggling with a stand-alone shop on the internet, being found by only those who knew where to look or typed in the right tag, I started looking for an online collective. Etsy kept coming up, and I noticed more people blogging about Etsy, so I checked it out again. Etsy has come a long way baby! Now I am glad to be here, on a couple of teams, and enjoying better online exposure.

Hi Timothy. Aloha from the North Shore. We started on Etsy without knowing anything about the site. We had just heard it was a site for handmade goods. We had an Ebay store, but we weren't getting any views. Three months later, we moved everything to Etsy and closed our Ebay. Now we are learning how to promote. Our traffic is increasing, and we are continuing to improve everyday!

I am one who loves to hunt for curious retro & vintage jewelry, finds, furniture and decorating inspirations. I have a passion for repurposing and giving life to forgotten items and consider my etsy store, The Eclectic Curio, a"curio" full of treasures!

As a child, I always enjoyed going to thrift stores and yard sales, (basically anywhere a good deal was to be found) with my mom and grandma. Today, as a mother, I enjoy treasuring hunting with my two adult daughters.

There is just something so gratifying about finding a beautiful, funky, or curious item that has been forgotten, cleaning or tweeking it, bringing life to it again, and then be able to share it with others who look at it with the same creative eye as yourself! I never knew that one day I could make a small business out of my passion for vintage and antiques! I love having an Etsy shop and interacting with buyers and other sellers!

I might be about the 76th post so here it goes. Always loved to be creative but never found a nitch. Collage grad with MBA in business. Worked up to a VP in the operations dept of the Foreign exchange, options, money market, etc dept. Had a very optimistic future. Bank that I worked for merged with another, I volunteered to be redundant to get a very nice package. Same time, same thing happened to Hubby. We rented our home to a friend and left the US to travel. Became Dive masters and expected to end our 1 yr trip in the Caribbean to stay and work our dream. That was 2001. While on live aboard dive boat in the Red Sea in Egypt, got the info of the planes crashing to the TT on 9/11. After several months and family tragedies, we came home to a tough time finding jobs. We had a beautiful little darling in the aftermath that LOVES to travel!! I have decided to leave my corporate behaviors behind and go for my artistic sights. Sorry so long!!

Thanks for the invite! I would LOVE to be included. Thanks.

My Etsy Store:
http://www.athenasgrove.etsy.com/

I have had a life-long love affair with fabric and added trims to that obsession about 12 years ago. I was promoting my original website a social networking site and kept seeing new friends and old adding this thing called etsy to their profiles and their avatars. Well, since my items are commercially made (highest quality!) I shied away thinking that I wouldn't be welcome. Then, I kept seeing more of those Etsy links. Imagine my surprise and delight when I clicked on some of them and discovered that Etsy encourages suppliers to handmade artisans as well!

This community has been so warm and welcoming to me and being included feels like it helps my goal of inspiring beauty, integrity and wisdom.

Thanks again for your kind invitation.

I like to have fun with my crafts so you'll see the ocassional random item as my girls would say.

What If…You imagined the possibilities?

That’s what we did. What If Gear was started by a group of long-distance friends who kept in touch mostly by phone. In these phone conversations, we noticed that so many of our sentences began with the words “What if…”. “What if there were no Mondays?” “What if everybody smiled more?” “What if we followed our dreams?” Then it really came into focus. “What if we started tshirt company?"

So we did. But we wanted it to be different than the other clothing companies out there. We wanted a positive image and a positive message. We wanted to offer high-quality products. And we wanted the whole experience, for both us and our customers, to be fun.

So we started coming up with sayings that started with “What if…”. We started telling our ideas to our families and friends, and then to strangers. And everybody loved them.

At some point in the process, it was decided that we needed a mascot, something to illustrate the messages. That’s how Wig the Wonder Dog came about. He is a compilation of several dogs owned by us, and he’s just too cute. Part puppy and all mutt, he symbolizes the wonder and optimism that What If Gear is all about.

The clothing that is offered by What If Gear is not your usual cheap t-shirts with a funny sayings printed on them. We have products manufactured by American Apparel, Anvil, Hyp, Authentic Pigment, and Alternative Apparel. For many years i've been doing all kinds of handmade.

In the last 5 years I'm concentrating in beaded jewelry. I love the colors and the variety that can be made from beads.

After i've accumulated to much jewelry that I don't wear, I've decided to sell them on Etsy.

so here i am...

Hi Timothy!

I've been an artist all my life, doing this and that. I made a little jewelry in middle school and sold it to my friends, then took a class in jewelry/metal work in college. The hardware was a little too involved to set up a home shop, so I moved on to graphic design and the sign business. It was a living.

Last year my daughter made a bracelet for my mom for Christmas, and I was hooked.

A jewelry-making friend told me about Etsy in April of this year. Ebay had been fairly unsucessful, and I was intrigued by the concept of an "all-handmade" website and artisan community, so I jumped in. My sales were pretty good at first, but the slowdown in the economy has been a little frustrating. I'm doing all I can to promote my shop, and trying oterh sales venues, but I will remain with Etsy as my online, virtual catalog. It's a great place to be!

Hi, I'm a professional artist/inventor working in many mediums. I've mostly used my own website to sell my work, plus ebay. My website is www.ArtyPantz.com
Then I moved some of my images to Etsy because I like the whole concept of Handmade. I've not really promoted my art work for sale because I do performance art for a living.
But recently I began a blog about living the creative life, and have found myself linking many of my images back to Etsy. Etsy is pretty special. my etsy store is
www.ArtistVO.etsy.com
I love to shop on Etsy too, and have sent many people to etsy to buy and sell!
I recently invented a unique swaddle baby blanket that seems to be a big hit. I am applying for a patent for it right now, and was advised to stop selling it until I have patent pending status, which should be by the middle of December. It's called a WrapADoodle and I have a website and etsy store for it too, both on hold at the moment.
www.wrapadoodle.com and www.wrapadoodle.etsy.com
