How did Etsy gain so many followers on Twitter?

If you are a follower of Etsy on Twitter you may have noticed a huge jump in their followers.

When you set up a new account on Twitter you are now prompted to follow 20 channels.. most are celebrities and other highly followed channels... Etsy has been added to one of these channels and their following is sky rocketing... Go Etsy!!!!

Well shoot, that totally decreases my chances of getting @replies from Etsy then, lol!

What's sort of lame is when I first started using twitter..what I liked about it was it seemed like more of a dialog between lots of people. With the 10,000 + follower people..it's just the same as a web update..blog update etc...their not dialoging, it's not a two way street. I am starting to drop those off my twitter....

Good for Etsy! I think it's another great way to get Etsy on the radar of people who may not be familiar with the site or handmade markets!

That's true, anji- I'm finding myself catching only part of what's going on with the people i really pay attention to because of so many other twits. i wish there were a way to keep a prefered list.

but, that's grand for etsy still!

Hi everyone!
Yes, we are getting loads of new followers now but I try hard to keep the coversation going. I read all @replies to Etsy and if I can't @reply back, I try to DM instead. Sometimes I mark the tweet as a favorite, especially if it is a suggestion of a new feature or a critique of how we are doing (and I send those to other teams at Etsy.) I try to follow back everyone who @replies to Etsy as well.

You can also particpate in Etsy Twitter fun by using the hashtags #etsywcp to talk about your Weekend Craft Projects and #etsymail when you post pictures (yay pictures) of opening Etsy packages or sending 'em off in the post.

You can always email me at anda@etsy.com if you have questions or suggestions that are longer than 140 characters. :D

I began to FEAR the forums because of a lot of cruelty there. I rarely go to the forums any more.
Also, several customers, buyers only, said they hated the promo forums and wanted dialogue, not being pressurised to "buy my blue."

Twitter is great; I've not come across nastiness there. Customers are people too and dialogue is useful.
